An algarve Love story: Hiking the cliffs of Carvoeiro, Portugal


There are some places that stop you in your tracks.


Not because they're famous. Not because they're crowded with tourists checking off a bucket-list destination, but because they feel like a secret. One of those rare places that makes you wonder why more people haven't visited it yet.


That's exactly how Noah and I felt during this unforgettable session along the cliffs of Marinha Beach, in Carvoeiro, in Portugal's Algarve Region.


When most people think about Portugal, their minds immediately go to Lisbon. And while Lisbon absolutely deserves the attention it gets, we couldn't stop thinking about how underrated the Algarve is, especially for couples dreaming of a destination wedding or adventure session that feels unique, intimate, and completely breathtaking.

More than a photoshoot


One of Noah and I's favorite thing about destination photography is that it's never just about the photos.


It's about the overall experience.


This session started with a hike along the dramatic coastline surrounding Carvoeiro. The towering golden cliffs, hidden beaches, winding coastal paths, and endless views of the Atlantic Ocean created the perfect backdrop. But what made the day truly special wasn't just the breathtaking scenery, it was the people.


As we explored the trails together, we spent hours getting to know our couple. We talked about life, travel, relationships, and how it was to grow up in such a stunning part of the world. Somewhere between the cliffside viewpoints and the secluded beaches, the session stopped feeling like work and started feeling like an adventure shared among friends.


These moments are always our favorite!


The genuine laughter, the quiet conversations, the way two people naturally connect when they're fully present with each other and immersed in a beautiful place.

Why we can't stop thinking about Carvoeiro


The Algarve has a way of surprising you.


Every turn along the trail reveals another incredible view. Dramatic rock formations rise from turquoise water. Hidden coves appear out of nowhere. And the way the light reflects off of the cliffs in such a way is just unreal.


Unlike many popular European destinations, there are still moments here where you can feel completely alone with the landscape.

There's an authenticity to the Algarve that feels increasingly rare. It's beautiful without trying too hard, luxurious without being flashy, and adventurous without requiring a difficult trek into the wilderness.

An underrated destination wedding location


If we're being honest, we think the Algarve should be on far more couples' radar.


While many destination weddings naturally gravitate towards places like Lisbon, Santorini, or the Amalfi Coast, the Algarve offers something a little different.


It gives you a stunningg scenery, incredible hospitality, gorgeous beaches, dramatic landscapes, and a relaxed atmosphere that invites people to slow down and enjoy the experience.

Sessions like this remind us why we fell in love with destination photography in the first place. Photography has taken Noah and I to places we dreamed about as teens and introduced us to people we'll never forget.


Every destination has its own story. Every couple brings their own energy. And when those two things come together, something incredible happens.


Noah and I don't just show up with cameras.


We hike the trails. We explore the hidden corners. We chase the light. We learn about the places and things that matter to our couples. And along the way, we create photographs that feel connected to both the people and the location.


That's what this session in Carveoiro felt like.
