Choosing an engagement session location
When couples ask us where they should have their engagement photos taken in Pittsburgh, we honestly get so excited! This city is packed with locations that are not only gorgeous but also full of character. Recently, we've spent many engagement sessions exploring some of our favorite spots: The Carnegie Museum of Art, Schenley Park, and The North Shore.
If you’re planning your engagement session in Pittsburgh and want a mix of timeless, romantic, and fun vibes, these locations are truly hard to beat!
Timeless & elevated
Carnegie Museum
Effortlessly sophisticated
There’s something about the Carnegie Museum that feels so effortlessly sophisticated. The architecture alone makes it a dream location for couples who want their photos to feel elevated and stylish. Between the grand marble staircases, soft natural light pouring in through tall windows, and the curated art galleries, the museum gives us endless backdrops that look like they belong in a magazine spread.
If you’re drawn to fashion-forward or editorial-inspired photography, this is the spot. We always love how our couples instantly carry themselves differently in such a stunning space — you can’t help but feel a little more elegant surrounded by that kind of history and beauty.
natural & romantic
Shenley Park

soft & romantic
Just a short drive away from the Carnegie Museum, Schenley Park feels like stepping into a completely different world. After the museum’s grandeur, the park brings in that soft, romantic touch with tree-lined pathways, hidden gardens, and golden hour light streaming through the leaves.
It’s the perfect balance: one moment you’re walking hand-in-hand along a quiet wooded trail, and the next you’re laughing together on a wide-open hilltop with the city skyline just peeking through in the distance. We love ending this portion of the session with a slower pace — just soaking in the beauty of Pittsburgh while capturing those in-between, natural moments.

iconic & fun
The North Shore
iconic & fun
Finally, one of our favorite locations: The North Shore. There’s no view of Pittsburgh quite like it. With the river, bridges, and skyline all in one shot, it’s pure magic — early morning sun with no one else out or as the sun sets and the city starts to glow, there's no other location like it.
The North Shore is also where couples can really let loose. Dance on the riverwalk, share a quiet moment by the water, or pop a bottle of champagne with the city lights behind you — it’s playful, iconic, and distinctly Pittsburgh.
Why These Locations?
What we love about these three spots — Carnegie Museum, Schenley Park, and The North Shore — whether you’re choosing one location or all three, is how they tell a complete story. You get elegance, romance, and fun all in one engagement session. It also gives variety to your gallery so that every photo feels fresh, unique, and tailored to you as a couple.
Looking Your Best for Your Engagement Session
One thing we hear all the time from couples is: “What should I do about hair and makeup?” Trust us — investing in professional hair and makeup makes a world of difference, not only in photos but also in how confident you’ll feel during the session. This is a great time to do a trial run of your wedding day hair and makeup to test how you like it, how it holds up, and what you look like in photos.
If you don't have a hair or makeup artist yet picked out, some of our favorite Pittsburgh makeup artists include Talitha Collado, Makeup by Claud, Makeup by Allison Nicole, Alesha Christine Makeup, and Make Me Blush Beauty Lounge. Each of them has a signature style, but they all know how to enhance your natural beauty in a way that photographs beautifully.
For hair, we love working with Haley Marie Beauty. She creates styles that move naturally (perfect for those North Shore breezes!) while still looking polished and photo-ready.
And for couples who want to bring a touch of floral magic to their engagement session, a few we recommend are Wild Botanical, The Floral Touch, and Ally Zajac Floral Design. A bouquet or wearable floral piece adds a romantic, editorial element that photographs beautifully and elevates your look.
Planning Your Pittsburgh Engagement Session
If you’re newly engaged and searching for a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, we’d love to help you plan a session that feels like you, making you feel seen, celebrated, and completely at ease. Whether that means exploring museums and parks or hopping between rooftops and coffee shops, our approach is always about creating an experience you’ll actually enjoy and documenting your story, as it should be told.
Your engagement session is more than just pretty pictures — it’s a chance to celebrate this chapter of your story in a way that feels authentic, stylish, and fun.
We’d love to hear your story and dream up the perfect engagement session together. 🩶
