There are weddings that feel like they were made for social media, and then there are weddings that feel like a living, breathing art piece. Kenny & Amelia's day, absolutely fell into the second category. Their wedding intentional, tactile, deeply personal, and rooted in intimacy.
From the moment we sat down for our first meeting, it was clear that this wedding wasn't built around trends or expectations, but simply built around them.
As the artists behind Suma Jewlery Co., Kenny & Amelia live in a world full of craft, form and story. Our role from day one was to lean into that, learning what mattered most to them, how they move through spaces, and what details carried meaning, so we could document their day in a way that felt honest and lived-in, not staged.
Their wedding wasn't just a celebration of marriage. It was an extension of who they are.
LATE SUMMER
Set on a gorgeous backyard lawn of a family friend's home in Pittsburgh, the Romano's September 13th wedding felt like a perfect event to close out the summer. Flowers in the garden were at their peak, the air was a bit warm, and their color palette moved effortlessly between the greens, golds, terracotta, and rust.
Rather than forcing the day to feel like one way or another, they embraced the in-between and that attitude guided how we photographed their day. We let moments unfold. We paid attention to how the light shifted, how the fabric moved and how their people gathered. The result was imagery that feels both grounded and dreamlike.
One of the most striking elements was Amelia's Ice-Dyed Silk Veil, the colors being shades of orange, gold, and browns. Flowing behind her, it caught the summer light in such a way, it was a visual anchor for their entire palette. Paired with her Marina Eerie Venus gown (a sculptural dream that looked like carved stone and wet clay), and her free-flowing bouquet, Amelia truly embodied what she called her vision: an earthy fairy goddess.
Texture, jewlery, & Letting people shine
Texture played a huge role in setting the tone for their day. You found it in the fabrics, florals, styling and even in the way guests were invited to show up as themselves.
Before their big day, we spent time with Amelia talking up what details mattered most. As a jewelry shop owner and designer, Kenny and Amelia poured their hearts into creating pieces specifically for this day, and it was important to us that those pieces were documented with intention, not just as another flat lay detail piece but as part of their overall story.
From Amelia's asymetrical pear shaped engagement ring, to her stone embeddednails and custom jewelry, we made sure to photograph them as life was being lived, on hands, in motion, how the light caught the gems, the same way their customers would get to experience their pieces.
Now on to the bridal party, which also reflected the same wavelength. Soft sage dresses anchored the palette while allowing for warm tones to shine. Amelia decided to give the bridesmaids freedom while staying within thoughtful parameters. Even the mother of the bride embodied this balance, her choice of a statuesque pleated gold cape gown that felt both timeless and distinctly her. This allowed everyone's individuality to truly shine while adding to the overall experience and vibe of the day.
a ceremony that felt like a collective exhale
One thing that Noah and I value most on a wedding day is the emotional pacing. We want ot make sure that there is space created for both the couple and guests to feel present rather than rushed.
Before the ceremony began, guests were invited into a grounding sound bath ritual led by a friend. From behind the lens, we watched as shoulders softened, conversations dimmed, and a collective calm settled over the space.
The ceremony space echoed the same intention with a winding aisle encouraging guests to slow down. Soft draping that framed the "alter" without overpowering it, and stunning florals to complement it. We photographed from multiple perspectives, making sure to capture the emotions of the ceremony. And yes, their pup made an appearance in her cute lil tutu!
The Romano's music choices were soulful and powerful, underscoring the emotions without overpowering it.
An abundant, layered celebration
As daylight faded, the celebration naturally shifted into a warm, communal evening under a clear-top tent. Long, organic flowing tables encouraged conversations, the natural decor pulled in people's attention, and the florals (by Wild Botanical) really brought the entire vision together.
From a documentation standpoint, this part of the day was all about the energy. We moved with the crowd, anticipating interactions, capturing the laughter during speeches, hands reaching for glasses, and tears of joy being wiped away. As the night grew darker, the crowd moved from a candlelit dinner onto the dance floor under the summer skies and watched as the Romano's had their first dance.
Just when ya thought the night couldn't get any more special, Amelia's mom sang Landslide by Fleetwood Mac while a good friend played the guitar, and all guests sat in enjoyment together.
Amelia's Second look was nothing less than iconic. A gold and black, short, sparkly dress made the transition from the dinner portion to the party portion of the reception so effortless. Less of an outfit change and more of a declaration that this was a celebration meant to be lived, danced, and fully felt.
Why this day will stay with us
What makes a wedding truly unforgettable isn't just how it looks but how it unfolds throughout the day. And neither of those could have happened without the Design and planning help from Victoria and her team from Devoted To You.
Kenny & Amelia trusted us not only to photograph their day, but to be present within it, to notice what mattered, to give space for real moments, and to tell their story honestly. From various check-ins leading up to the wedding to moving seamlessly between photo and video coverage on the day itself, our goal is simple: make them feel supported and at ease so they can stay present.
The result: a day that felt expansive, grounded, creative,and deeply human. They approached their day as a "wild art project," and invited everyone around them to experience it with presence and joy.
